Hello all,
Like many other people, I'm starting to become fed up with Firefox:
- crazy versioning scheme, which regularly breaks add-ons (such as HTML
Validator)
- bugs unfixed since almost 10 years
- gratuitous and frivolous GUI changes
(This is especially painful on a distribution such as Fedora, which
seems to follow every Firefox version. On Kubuntu 10.04 it is bearable,
as it sticks with 3.6)
Of course, there's other browsers such as Opera, Midori or ... gasp ...
Chrome.
However, as one of the main reasons for my discontent is the breakage of
addons, and as those other browsers don't have addons at all (or are
incompatible with the many Firefox addons), switching to one of those
wouldn't solve the problem...
So, here's my question: does anybody know of a fork of Firefox/Mozilla
from around the 3.x period which kept with sane version numbers while
still fixing bugs? Or an entire different browser, but that can use
Firefox add-ons?
I know, there is seamonkey, but apparently it branched off in the 2.x
days, which is a tad *too* old for me.
Thanks for any ideas,
Alain
I tinkered a bit with my Luxtrust middleware today:
- updated patch to new OpenSC SVN trunk
- set up a proper git repo for versioning of my work
- as the c3l wiki went bust, I moved the page to the lilux wiki:
https://www.lilux.lu/lilux/mediawiki/index.php/FLOSS_Luxtrust,
and added info to that page.
However, getting the signing key to work is not for today.

Hello,
I've recently installed Kubuntu10.10 on a laptop Acer TM660 (rather
old hardware now), running in 32b
with a Centrino chip for wireless connection but I didn't find how to
configure interfaces; in the
menu to configure the network I was able to put parameters for new
wireless connection but
surprisingly there is no option to bind connection with a specific
interface; thus, after that,
there is no mean to set up interface as it is not yet configurated;
command ifconfig -a gives:

Hi,
I'm pleased to report that I've developed a free software driver /
middleware for LuxTrust-issued smartcards. Details at
http://c3l.lu/wiki/index.php/Luxtrust#Using_Open_source_tools
Let me know of your experiences with it.
As usual, it should work on any Unix-or-clone-supported architecture,
not only Intel 32 bits.
That driver is not 100% my work, by far. As Newton said, I've been
standing on the shoulders of giants. First and foremost the whole
OpenSC framework development team and contributors, but also Georges
Bart; my patch to OpenSC is based on his, and on the existing GemSafe
v1 driver in OpenSC (LuxTrust cards are GemSafe v2 cards).
Now you know what I've been up to during hack.lu instead of listening
to the presentations :)

Hi,
a word of warning for those of you using Ubuntu on a
NetBook: the new release 10.04, due this friday, has
a bug related to WLAN and WPA/WPA2, for RT2860 chips
as used in many Netbooks (such as the EEE 1000H).
While it can connect to unencrypted or WEP "encrypted"
WLANs, it is unable to connect to WPA/WPA2 APs.
It is fixed in a newer kernel release, but probably
won't be available for the launch of the new version.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/496093?comments=all
If you don't need such access, fine, but if you do,
and want to upgrade, you'll need to use a different
kernel (to be installed via other type of connectivity)
to have things working. The alternative is to delay the
upgrade until the fix is in the standard repositories.
Ah, the joys of beta-testing...

P.S. Launch party friday evening at the hackerspace:

Hi
A freiend of mine has Kubuntu 9.10 installed. He wants to have access to his
Fritz!Box by WLAN. Which card is well supported under Linux with WPA/WPA2
Support and an oss driver? USB or PCI perhaps with an external Antenna.
Thanks

* SQL databases
* PHP
* LDAP
* Puppet
* Mailman
* Have good communication skills in written and spoken English.
* Be passionate about Free Software and have knowledge regarding GNOME.
Other job requirements include:
* Ability to communicate and manage projects and priorities with a
distributed group of volunteers who make up the GNOME Sysadmin team
* Weekly and monthly communication with the Executive Director and
quarterly reports regarding the Sysadmin Team's work to the GNOME
Foundation.
There are no specific educational requirements for this position,
however a typical candidate will have completed or be in the process
of completing an undergraduate degree. Several years experience
maintaining production servers is mandatory.

Hi.
I have a problem using KMail after an upgrade to Kubuntu 10.04. In Kubuntu
9.10, I could define a list of persons to receive a mail, f.ex. a list with
different e-mail addresses.
In the new KMail, I couldn't find such a function.
Could anybody help?
Thanks
