Quoting Michel Maria-Sube <mgms1(a)yahoo.com>:
  Hi
I've tryed recently to install Mandriva 2006 on a
laptop Acer Serie "Ferrari4000" (with a AMD Thurion
64b, 100GB DD, etc...) but this fails to start
correctly in graphical mode: the screen is 15"4 size,
resolution is 1680x1050 and card is ATI radeon
mobility x700; this hardware is apparently very new
and corresponding driver not included in most recent
linux packages (even Suse 10 which however correclyihre Partnerschaft
erweitert: T-Online Vision soll für Viiv-Geräte geeignet sein und das
 kabellose Surfen mit einem Centrino-Duo-No
recognize the hardware) but ATI furnish a 'generic
driver' for linux 64b distros; problem is that the
installer works only in graphical mode; I've also
tryed XFdrake in failsafe mode and change parameters,
monitor (I'v tryed vesa, ati, radeon..), type of panel
 (changing frequence, resolution...),
 resolution...without success...
 Any suggestion?
 Thank you in advance
 Cheers
 M.
What if you try to run thed graphical mode in framebuffer and try to
install the graphical driver within it?
Try if SuSE starts in graphical mode.
If it is in graphical mode, try to run it (fb) (generic SuSE driver).
Only a suggestion.
Al
