Hi all,
whenever I go to http://www.linuxpackages.net and try to enter something
in the SearchPkg box (top left), my Mozilla 1.7 dies.
Where can I find a log of what happens?

I do not know of a log.
On my machine I have no problem with Mozilla 1.7 and linuxpackages.net
(Slack 9.1)
Two days ago, my Slack 10 CDs have arrived. I will install it now in a
new partition and will try to reproduce your problem.

In the LinuxPackages forum, they say it's a problen when you run Mozilla
on a machine which has Freetype2 which has been recompiled with the
hinting option. Weird, that's exactly what I did. So, Slack10 is likely
to work out-of-the-box, as Freetype is in its 'US' form.
Firefox should work, according to the forum, but it doesn't. Mozilla has
annoyed my on several other occasions, so I might just get rid of it one
of these days :-(

I have abolutely no problem. Under Slack 9.1 I used the version 1.7
without Pango support from www.mozilla.org. Under Slack 10 I used
Slackware's version.
Perhaps it lies on the KDE environment. Try without KDE. Run xwmconfig
under Slackware and select another environment.

The message is a segmentation fault. See also

I've compiled Freetype2 without the hinting option. Same problem as
well. If I want to go back to the native X11 installation from Slack 10
with the original Freetype, which packages to I have to reinstall from
the CD?

Just mount the first Slackware CD and execute:
upgradepkg --reinstall /mnt/cdrom/slackware/x/x11-6.7.0-i486-4.tgz
This should be enough ;-)
What was your motivation to compile Freetype2? If you do not like AA
just remove Slackware's Mozilla package and install the default one from
www.mozilla.org. This works.

It was more about activating the hinting that's patent-protected in the
US but not here.
