usenet clients, if you're into that.
Depending on context,
groups.google.com may be interesting.
In case you want to download stuff and then browse offline, possibly
with filtering, you may want to look at leafnode.

freshmeat.net for "usenet", there's tons of interesting apps
there... fun names too ;-)
