Hi
I tried to install the ftp version of SuSE 9.2.9 (9.3 Beta) on the Hard Disk.
It fails at boot finding the boot device (dev/sda7). I installed the
kernel on this partition (logical), but after reboot, it gives me the
error message:
resume /dev/sda7......Can't find device /dev/sda7.
Help wwanted.
Thanx
Al

HI Alex,
Something looks like what you have arrive time ago with a server SuSE 9.1,
all was working fine, and suddently boot error message you can see in
the 2 attachements
arrive after YOU system update (with kernel update)
=> it was somewhere in septembre 2004.
After a brief look (the important whting was server running ;-)
=> I remove new kernel rpm and put the previous with no luck
I finally change back also mkinitrd package and the error message disappear.
I'll try a look at /boot/initrd* files
I'll copy /boot/initrd* file to /tmp/initrd.gz
gunzip /tmp/initrd.gz
give me the return about "trailing garbage at the end of the file"
(not exactly error message: can't remember)
after this I can go to tmp folder
mkdir ok
mount -o loop initrd ok
cd ok
and I have a look at all files inside initrd folder
=> I'll compare binary inside initrd and copy from localhardrive: they
are the same
I'll gzip initrd back and put it in /boot/ without no luck ;-)
and a few weeks after SuSE release one update (not sure it's 2 updates)
for mkinitrd package ;-)
=> version actuel on the server: mkinitrd-1.0-197
=> since this time we don't upgrade server ;-)
I don't know if my problem is related to yours,
but have a look at your initrd file and try to unzip,
to see if error message about "trailing garbage" appear.
But the "resume" word tell me that perhaps you boot your kernel
with parameter about resume/suspend mode he should use.
=> have a look at kernel parameter.
Good day,
Laurent.
