Hi List!
I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me. I have set up a Debian
unstable system for my sister while she was here in Hungary for the
summer vacation, now she is back to Luxembourg (Schifflange). She is
very happy with her shiny new Gnome 2.6 desktop. The only thing which
is not working is the analogue internet connection. We have installed
wvdial and gnome-ppp hoping it would work out-of-the-box, but somehow it
will not authenticate with neither P&T nor Luxweb. I'm quite certain the
username and password etc. are okay, also, the external modem works
fine. We tried tweaking /etc/ppp/options, but no luck there. I managed
to get my syster to add debug logging and find the relevant info in
/var/log/debug, but the only line I'm sure of goes something like
"failed to athenticate ourselves with peer". As you can imagine it is
nearly impossible for me to solve this problem over the telephone,
without having access to the machine. I'm looking for a person in
Luxembourg who would be willing to visit my sisters' house and fix the
connection, it shouldn't be too difficult for someone who has some
experience with ppp links. In return I can offer some programming in
PHP, a guided tour in Budapest, or anything else.
Thanks for reading this post!
