In the section "device", you'll find something as:
Section "Device"
BoardName "GeForce4 MX 440"
BusID "1:0:0"
Driver "nvidia"
Identifier "Device[0]"
Screen 0
Option "Rotate" "off"
VendorName "NVidia"
EndSection
Just replace the "off" by "on".
Not supported by NVidia 3D accelerated mode.
I think it answers your question. I use it sometimes. It works fine.
I did put this ins our "Tips 'n Tricks" section of our website, cause this
might interested more people i think. Bytheway if anyone wants to add similar tips or
trricks about stuff they managed to do on their Linux system, feel free to forward me a
proposal for adding in this section of our website :

Hi All, I have just bought a shiny new TFT monitor
for my home PC. It is
one of the SAMSUNG monitors that can rotate 90 degrees so that the display
is in portrait instead of landscape mode. Although this isn't the reason
that I bought it, it would be a nice feature to use when writing papers.
Does anyone know how I can change the orientation (rotate 90 degrees) of
either X or KDE to take advantage of this pivot screen? I haven't been
able to dig anything up on Google, but I have found that there is an
option in the KDE control center to rotate the screen. Unfortunately, all
options except for "normal" are inactive :(
