Hi,
sorry for replying to myself, but... :-)

[Debian GNU/Linux on Alpha]
I've got some troubles here with SRM-only
AlphaServers, getting
the system to even boot one of these boot images (hangs at
"jumping to bootstrap code", doesn't even get to the bootloader).
Ok, we found out what the trouble was: the kernel provided
by Debian doesn't like this machine. Furthermore, the console
was set in the SRM to the serial port, so most messages went
out that way.
We are in the process of building a special boot image (boot
via bootp/tftp) for that one machine (AlphaServer 2100A, model
5/300).
We already managed to install a couple of other AS2100A, but
models 4/200 and 4/275 in those cases, which worked with the
Debian-provided kernel right away (after we ripped out the
Adaptec 1740 SCSI controllers, EISA).
The AlphaServer 1000A also booted fine using the normal Debian
boot image (or Gentoo, for that matter).
So in case someone starts playing with Linux on Alpha, I
might be able to help out a little bit ;-)
Greetings, Eric
