That information is (mostly) outdated - the drivers are called ipw2100
resp. ipw2200 and to be found on SourceForge. You do need to download
a binary-only firmware though.

I am happily running ipw2100 on my own laptop.
Yes, those drivers didn't exist yet when I bought the laptop, but in
the meantime have become decidedly usable. The Kubuntu 5.10 I installed
a week ago came with the support out of the box (err... download).
To see whether one of the drivers is loaded and active on that SuSE box,
try as root:
lsmod | grep ipw
