Although it sounds like a great idea, there are too
many differences in how
people use their linux distro which has a huge affect on the memory

web server, which are different from a desktop system. Point being, you must
define a purpose for the installation before you can even begin to compare
them.
So we might suggest one distribution per "case" (type of user, type of
usage).
Keep in mind though, that I think the whole
distribution argument is ridiculous. You need to pick something that you
like because it fits YOUR needs and that YOU are happy with. I've gone
through a ton of different distributions, but in the end I use SuSE because I
like YAST and I don't have broadband at the house.
I don't think it is ridiculous, and the fact that you have to go through
<quote> tons </quote> of different installations until you find what
you like is in my opinion a major problem to get Linux more popular. I
know, it is already popular - but a lot of my friends have a
distribution installed, but don't really use it. They just carry on
using Windows.
