Hi all,

Did anybody already download and use the skype P2P telephony tool ? Heard
that its relatively nice, however do I have my concerns about the securiy
inside, they talk about end-to-end enreyption, but as it's closed source I
can't really check its quality.

Has anybody knowledge about the quality of skype's security ? As it's a
Luxembourg company, my interests are of courye also on a professional
basis ;)

AFAIK, Brent is the person youi searched!

My wife costed me roughtly 500 € a month in international calls using EPT.
My wife costed me about 150 € a month in international calls using CrossComm.
I'm still maried, and she still has capacity to use a phone, so I had to find a solution to reduce the recurent costs, or buy a phone company, or suppress phones at home.
I tryed Skype (my engagement for free software would lead me to use GnomeMeeting, but the price of calls to fixed phone with it is twice the price of Skype).
I invested in headsets. I even tryed to find a dual-way wireless headset. Not yet available at acceptable price.
The result is: 50% of the time, the communication is acceptable, using SkypeOut (so to legacy phones). My bill got reduced to 70 €, because my wife switches to the phone when Skype is not delivering the espected service. So you can conclude that Skype is a good service, knowing that it is still (and will remain) no more than a BEST EFFORT service. For 2€c/min, it's 5 times cheaper than CrossComm, so you have value for your money.
I informed my wife about the period in a day where the Internet is less loaded, and she follows now my advice, and I think it increases the efficiency rate of Skype service.
I have no info about Skype security. Believe me, the stategic value of informations exchanged between my wife and her mother is close to 0. I don't really care about this, but when they talk about me. If you have concerns about Skype at security level, check the web about experiences. I didn't heard about any issue there until now. You can also consider running Skype in a sub-system (User Space Kernel) or under a very limited account (nobody). But I think they don't want to play this game. I think there is much more risk at using eMule or Internet Exploder.

Yours,
