Thing is, I wanted to play around with the X.org

Oh nice, this is 'nice' to hear so I don't need to test x.org on my laptop
;)
Well, since I actually need this laptop to work, I didn't take too
much time to get it working - I've got other systems to play with
;-)
My
/etc/X11/XF86Config says the following about the keyboard:
shouldn't it be /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 (with an emphasize on '-4' !)
I'd have thought so, but it actually always worked correctly
this way. Maybe it's a Gentoo thing, no idea.
The keymaps /
locales etc. for fr_CH are on the system:
Is this keybord def also well represented in the Screen section ?
It is specified in the ServerLayout section as CoreKeyboard.
Anyway the question is moot by now - since I'll have to present
stuff anyway on Debian GNU/Linux, I have installed Sarge
yesterday evening, using the new Debian installer (downloaded
the +- stable version on a Netinstall CD). I found this new
installer to be less verbose than the old one, network setup
was certainly quicker. I may be too used to dselect, but I had
slight trouble adapting to aptitude. Anyway, the system is up
and running, including XFree and KDE. The tedious stuff will
now follow...
Greets Eric
