You learn things every day... unfortunate though that
they have
a problematic license.
Basically, the university of Washington needed a mail solution that
*worked* for its various (non-technical) students. They developed the
protocol, a server and an "idiot-proof" client for internal use. The
whole RFC stuff came only later.
About the license, I've heard that, taken literally, it is no problem,
but that their interpretation of it is non-free.
