I sent an e-mail to LuxTrust concerning this issue and they have
completely and absolutely ignored me ;-)
I have therefore ended up setting up a 32-bit chroot and it seems to
work fine.
In case it may help somebody else, I followed the instructions here:

Me too, I have a 64-bit system (Kubuntu). I
worked around the issue by
running a separate browser for Luxtrust in a 32-bit chroot.
