Hi,
as some of you may know, older Loki games do not run well on
newer systems.
In my case, it's Civilization Call to Power (CivCTP) on Debian/testing.
X is XFree 4.3.0.1 (surprise there, I thought I'd switched to x.org...
must've been one of the other systems), kernel is 2.6.11.7
So, I've installed CivCTP (en) on my laptop. I upgraded it with the
latest (AFAICS) upgrade available, civctp-1.2a-english-unified-x86.run
The problem now is that when I start CivCTP, start a new game, I can
select my settings, but then when the game loads, it hangs at about
1/3 of the progress bar. Except for the underlying OS and the mouse
pointer, it's just gone, and I have to kill it via the console.
Funny thing is, if I start a tutorial first, I can actually run a
game (which has it's own issues, but well).
In case it's needed for diagnosis, I can provide lsof output for
the game, or worst case try running it in gdb ;-)
Online, I found tips like using LD_ASSUME_KERNEL, which didn't help.
I also found this nice page:
http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Running_Old_Loki_Games
which is not Gentoo-centric, which proposes using old libs etc.,
but that doesn't change things either.
Can anyone point me to some solution that will work? (I've got time
to kill right now...)
Thanks in advance,
Eric
