Hello people,
Hello,
Do I need the splitter, and what is it for?
Yes, you need it.
You connect the phone line on the wall to the splitter and then you ISDN
phone and Modem to the splitter.
Is is for that the DSL and ISDN are not disturbing each other.
Are long connection cables a problem?
Usually you can use long cables, but it should be Ethernet cables (CAT.5)
or telephone cable (don't use this flat cables as they are not so good
quality).
Is the connection using the eth0 preferable? and why?
The connection using the ETH0 is the easiest with Linux I think.
Once properly wired it should configure using Yast out
of the box
(right?). But should it be configured using the
network devices -> Modem
or -> DSL ?
When you are using the Ethernet Interface, just configure with Yast your
Ethernet card to get his IP adress from a DHCP server, the router will give
you an internal IP adress (like 192.168.1.100). Then you can easy access
the Internet (if the router was already configured by PT)
Thanks for any pointers, ADSL is a bit murky in my
mind...
With routers it is much easier as you don't have to manage the PPPoA (or
PPPoE) connection establishment)
