it's interesting as I was having the same idea.
I noticed at Excell(a)concorde.bertrange.lu ;) that they're selling two
brands of PCI wireless adapters (nic), one is US robotics (which is the
one recommended by the salesbot and the other I forgot the name.
Both do the 802.11g etc... go up to 54Mbps, the USR one seems to have an
extra feature allowing it to reach 100Mbps (which is officially why the
bot was recommending it).
