[snip Debian unstable & X problems]
I read a short while ago that there's two larger conversions taking
place at this time, the move to a new gcc / glibc version, and the
move from XFree86 to X.org.
This has caused a number of issues with dependencies on libraries
that had (or not) moved yet.
Possibly, you've run into some of those.
The solution is to wait for those issues to be resolved, i.e.
run your updates regularly until things work again as they should.
Now that explains many things. Well, no problem then, I'll be waiting
for things to get straightened out. The only bad thing about those
updates is that he keeps removing things (lots of), due to dependency
errors. I already thought there was something wrong with my
sources.list. Well ...
I guess that's why I tend to rather use testing on
my desktops
than unstable [once got burned myself], updates hardly ever break
things, unlike unstable...
I get burned every once in a while, helps me get to know my system :) If
things went smoothly all the time, I would hardly know my machine.
I already thought about downgrading, but as I absolutely need some
software from unstable I'm not going to start and mix things up.
Anyway, thanks
Juri
