[Lilux-help] Kubuntu

Hello I use Kubuntu 7.10 with KDE 3.5.8. I want to change some file association, i.e. that avi files are opened with vlc instead of kaffeine. I changed file associations in konqueror (Settings->configure konqueror->file associations), but nothing happens if I click apply. It does anything, but if I close the window, reopen it, all settings are the old ones. Nothing that i configured last time changed. So my question is: Is there another way to do it in Kubuntu or which configuration file in .kde reflects the file associations?
