probablement davantage autour d'arguments financiers (l'Open Source
est moins cher, ...) et politiques/philosophiques (liberté,
indépendance, absence de "Vendor Lock-in") que techniques (stabilité,
features, etc).
Avis aux amateurs ;-)
Alain
There is a windows-host in our homenetwork which prefers to stay invisible
from others. The server is set up as authentication server and works fine
even for this computer except that the computer I mentioned doesn't show up
in any browse list. (even in network neighbourhood on its own desktop).
The computers ip is correctly resolved if I use only the hostname part. I
added it to hosts and even to lmhosts (which should not even be needed
because there is also dns). Wins-support is enabled and I told the windows
hosts to use wins. I also switched the lm-advertising from automatic to on,
with no results.
Does anybody know what I should watch for? The weird thing is that two other
machines are as far as I can tell set up exactly the same way and they show
up in network neighbourhood.
Samba version is 3.0.1
Thanks for any hints.
hi,
I've installed gnuchess (gnuchess-5.06-2mdk) and
xboard (xboard-4.2.6-5mdk) on my laptop (working under
Mandrake9.2) but I'm unable to execute xboard; when
launching, I've following messages:
first chess program (gnuchess xboard) exited
unexpectedly
error: writting to first chess program: broken pipe
and when clicking OK, application exits
Any suggestion to obtain correct execution?
Thank you in advance
Michel

Hi,
I was looking at our web site stats and saw that at least 2 people do a permanent
reload of the pages.
Our Internet connectivity is not the fastest and this load is not realy necessary.
The 2 connections are coming from vodsl-418.vo.lu using Mozilla 1.5 (1715 hits in 3
days) the other is ptadsl using Opera (570 hits in 2 days).
It would be cool to have some real statistics and less load on our site.
Thanks.

Hi,
just FYI - I got KDE 3.2 onto my laptop yesterday, previously
running 3.1.4 (all of it on Gentoo, kernel 2.6).
I found KDE 3.2 to be a good bit quicker than the previous
version, which already was a huge improvement over even older
ones.
This goes to show that software doesn't have to go the bloatware
trip (ok, I guess MacOS X shows the same).
Also, I didn't encounter any bugs yet.
Greetings, Eric

Hi Brent,

Tried, didn't work out as I wanted (was quite the same result as
with forward first).
My problem: for some subdomains, I delegate DNS to their respective
servers, on the internal network.
Example:
External: domain.lu is handled on my external servers. The MX points
to the external mail servers.
Internal: My internal DNS servers handle domain.lu, with more and
different data than what's seen externally.
sub1.domain.lu gets delegated to dns.sub1.domain.lu.
Now, without forwarders, when I do a
dig mx @dns1.admin.domain.lu sub1.domain.lu
I'll get the answer as returned by the dns.sub1.domain.lu server,
say mail.sub1.domain.lu.
If I add forwarders, pointing to the external DNS servers, for the
same query I get an answer from the external servers, i.e. giving the
external mail servers (say, mail.domain.lu) - so instead of internal
mail for sub1 going thus to mail.sub1.domain.lu, they'll go to the
external mailserver mail.domain.lu (catching everything for domain.lu
and routing it to the internal network), creating a mail loop.
I tried this also on bind9 by now, the effect remains the same as
on bind8.
I guess I'll just have to add my external servers to the root hints
file (no worry, I'll test before actually putting it in production).
Anyway, if VeriSlime goes through with putting Sitefinder back up,
we'll all have to fiddle around with our DNS servers more...
Since the "new" servers are of a more respectable power than the
current ones, I guess the current problems might just go away as
soon as we switch... but we'll see.
I love playing with Linux/Alpha ;-)
Greets Eric
Hi all,
I was wondering if any if you guys are going to FOSDEM [1] this year,
and what sort of public transport possibilities there are to get from
luxembourg to brussels, i.e. what you guys can recommend?
cheers,
