Hi,
I am currently looking into spam filtering on a mail relay (i.e.
filtering mails coming into an external mail server, which will
relay mails to the inner network).
I.e. (most) users are not defined on that external server, there
is no chance whatsoever that users can be made known to that
server.
The MTA is postfix.
I must heavily insist on extremely low false-positive rates, even
if this means more spams not being identified as such.
Mails also will be tagged only and passed on, not rejected or
anything (for spams anyway - not necessarily in the case of
viruses). I can't exclude based on countries, as it is perfectly
conceivable that people will receive legitimate emails from china
or korea etc. Also, using "hot" blacklists like SpamCop is out of
the question, as these (from my own experience) are not reliable
(false positives, blacklisting legitimate servers etc.).
I have tests running with a combination of SpamAssassin (directly
tied into postfix, via the daemon version) and amavisd-new/clamav
for the antivirus part.
These tests look interesting, but I quite obviously need to fine-
tune the SpamAssassin configuration (using Debian defaults right
now - I'm not happy with the ID rate).
I'm looking into dspam right now, but this seems to make quite
some use of feedback from users, which I don't have here, so
that's not useful.
I was wondering what other spamfilter might be interesting in
this context (i.e. no training by users).
Also, I was wondering how to best "burn" an email address so it
will receive lots of spam. I did post into a couple of usenet
groups (alt.test, de.test), but didn't receive much other than
viruses.
Any ideas?
Greets & thanks, Eric
G'day,
I just wanted to ask whether a date for the 2004 edition of the
linuxdays.lu has been fixed or not. If not, what time period is likely
to contain the date of the final event?

Hi,
Thanks ${DEITY} there is webmail.
Background information :
I've been having problems sending e-mails for the past 4 days.
I'm using Coditel cable as my ISP, so far it was working OK, almost no
problem.
Symptoms :
For the past 4 weeks there have been increasing problems, first my mails
seemed to be rejected by Sendar for some obscure "IP forwarding" question
and Thierry helped me with that. I had to fix my parameters in Ximian
Evolution and Kmail (I'm using both, yes, different e-mail adresses,
different "identities", different repositories etc...)
The last time I was able to send myil from my normal account was on Sunday
night, since then all I get is some error message saying "unable to
connect to sendar port 25".
I _am_ able to retrieve my mails from Sendar though and I do receive
e-mails on each of my e-mail adresses.
I called Thierry and we checked a few things and it doesn't seem to come
from Sendar, so I called the Coditel (un)help-line to inquire. As usual
they at first considered I might have problems with Outlook or perhaps a
trojan on my system, I explained that neither Kmail, nor Evolution, nor
Linux are all that suscpetible to windows virii (they were actually
understanding about that) and said there have been "several" reports of
users having trouble sending e-mail, they were surprised though that I
_am_ able to send e-mail with my Coditel account (surprise, this works)
Since I'm not all too confident they'll find a solution fast enough for my
(and Lilux's) needs I want to ask you guys
1) are there other people here who'd be using Coditel cable ISP ? do you
have similar problems?
2) where (and how) can I find/activate the logs so I can actually check
what's happening when my system's trying to connect to Sendar's port 25?
3) Sendar responds to ping, but I can't ssh to Sendar either, might be
similar filtering from Coditel, how can I investigate this?
4) any other suggestions
Any help will be appreciated, printed if possible, applied to find the
reason, the bill will be sent to Coditel and funding given to LiLux ;))
thanks
Serge
