Hi,
when I do a "ps -ef | grep "d$" I get the following result
root 1047 1 0 12:00 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/smpppd

serge 2779 2687 0 12:02 ? 00:00:04 kdeinit: konqueror
--preload
I checked about most of the daemons, but I still don't understand why I
have several "nscd" running. Man tells me it's the name server cache
daemon... why should it have 6 or 7 processes?
Other thing, I noticed I have 7 "kjournald" processes running. What do
they do?
thanks for any info
Serge

Hello,
Does anybody remember the discussion about the topic that the provider
should allow the user to run his own mailserver and the problem that
there are no DSL service offers for tech savvy people?
T-Online has started a new DSL service for 3.99 Euro designed to be used
by geeks:
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/12/29/t-online_cutprice_dsl/
Remember: I am not a friend of T-Online and do NOT recommend T-Online. I
just think that the story may be amusing to read.
Greetings, Patrick Kaell
Hello,
Since tuesday I have my new shiny dsl from alternet which worked very
well...
Worked, because only on tuesday I could effectively use it.
I made a firmware upgrade of the router/modem-combo that night (Zyxel
R650-33 ISDN) and everything continued to work.
Yesterday then I had no success anymore, neither today (on ISDN dialup
again now :-( )
The modem seems to happily connect (DSL and PPPOE activity LED are
on/blink)
Does anybody have also trouble with alternet recently, or am I the only
one? Or could it be the new firmware?
traceroute does like this:
traceroute to 80.90.45.45, 30 hops max, 38 byte packets
1 router (192.168.101.254) etc ...
2 * * *
3 * * *
4 * * *
etc...
The router/modem says in it's status page that it's connected at 1024
kbit/s
Hmmm, can anybody give me a hint (If you prefer also by icq 143117150)
Thanks and regards,
Yves Glodt

Hi gang! Has anyone ever tried to get a Netgear ADSL router to work with
Cegecom? I've recently purchased on and it is giving me all sorts of
problems. I can synchronize with the DSL line but PPP negotiation is
failing. Cegecom is completely unwilling to help with this because they
"only support the Speed Touch Router".
I am getting stuck in the LCP negotiations (PPP negotiating the communication
rules), so it isn't an authentication problem.
Mike
P.S. My Linksys router was dead on arrival. It won't even sync with the DSL
line.....
hi all,
thnx to the discussion about coditel, i found out how much they start to s***.
they sent me a bill a week ago that they were counting traffic, already for
the past 3 months, and they would bill me now for that traffic.
allthough i never received any notice from them stating they would count it.
and for 2gb over limit they charge 10€.
wow.
thinking about changing my isp again, soon.
what dsl providers are good in lux?
i read some about alternet?

HI
After a while working with my USB-Memorystick, it will not be mounted anymore.
While copying, the error message appears: .... does not exist anymore.
I then unplug the USB Stick and plug it again, and after a while, it works
again.
I use SuSE 9.2 on a 550MHz Pentium III.
The Stick is recognised as (lsusb)
Bus 001 Device 011: ID 067b:2516 Prolific Technology, Inc.
Bus 001 Device 010: ID 067b:2515 Prolific Technology, Inc. Flash Disk Embedded
Hub
My /etc/fstab line is
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
/dev/sda1 /media/sda1 auto noauto,user 0 0
What goes wrong???

I have NO relation with Alternet other that my employer uses it and
advices it to his customers, because it appears to Plan-Net as being the
best choice for the time being.
Plan-Net is and will remain independant of software/hardware/telco
vendors. So, if the situation changes, I'll be the first to inform you
about the new opportunities.
But in order to increase the impact I, and Plan-Net, can have on this
ISP in case it takes bad choices or decreases in quality, I suggest you
to quote my name ("Recomanded by Brent") when applying for Internet
Access. They know me very well. This does not give me a cent neither a
reduction on my own subscription, but it gives me access to the updates
they sent normally only to their partners, so that I can inform you. I
also strongly suggest you to quote that you are Linux user (even
part-time) by adding on the contract that you only accept the conditions
if Alternet certify that the service is working with Linux hosts,
routers and firewalls. They accept those kind of annotations. For the
time being, it's no problem with them, but this way they will have more
difficulties to change their mind if ever in the future.

All,
still chasing my strange problem.
One of the major suspects is my ADSL router, a Zyxel 650H-33. Does
anybody have exactly the same model? I'd like to compare configurations.
