Hi,
I went on the website, downloaded the firefox installer and "installed"
it (as root) but my other users can't use it. For some reason, it won't
start. It did work when I ran it as the user who installed it (root).
I'd like to know the following things in general:
- do I need to be logged in as root to install firefox on my system?
- if not, should be logged in as root to install firefox on my system?
- where should I install firefox? in /usr/local/bin/? in /opt/ ?
- there are three different users on my system, what should I do to make
sure they all can use firefox once it's installed?
About my specific problem, I launched firefox from the shell and got the
following error message:
<quote>
user@host:~> firefox
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: XDM authorization key matches an existing client!
(firefox-bin:5584): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
</quote>
thanks for any help
Serge

Sadly, it is really an emulation, so (as reported on their web site qemu.org) it
runs roughly 4 times slowlier than the same program running natively on the host
computer (in the x86 on x86 case).
If you download the last binaries in tgz format from the qemu.org web site, (the
one that must be untared in the / directory), there are documentations in there.
No time yet to read it, but there are some at least.

Bonjour,

Hi,
after having seen Brent play around with QEMU, I decided to give it
a try - and it is indeed nice, even if it feels slower than VMWare.
I've got one problem though, which is networking - the documentation
is frankly lacking, and I didn't as yet find out how to set up
bridged networking (i.e. what VMWare normally does). I did google,
but the results there are also not what I expected (including google
groups).
Does someone have pointers to *decent* documentation for this stuff?
TIA, Eric
Hi
I recently upgraded via YOU to this kernel and since then, I can't mount any
CDROM Drive. The kernel always says: No medium found.
I thought that it was an error in my bios settings, but in Knoppix all went
fine.
Before I do a downgrade to my previous kernel, I want to ask if someone heard
about bugs of this kernel-version.
Thanks.
Al
Hi,
I don't know where and what I'm doing wrong.
I'm using SuSE Linux 9.x [x<2] and I don't have a printer, so I often
print to PDF wich I print at another location ($ORKPLACE)
When I go to a webpage using KDE's Konqueror and want to print it, I'm
able to print it to a PDF document. However, when I'm using Mozilla (no
time yet to install Firefox) I only get the option to print to .ps ..!
How come? where can I change the settings?
thanks
Serge

Hello,
When starting kaffeine in SusE 9.2 with my centrino on-board chip sound,
it says: "All drivers failed to initialize". It is the same with
MPlayer, who crashes a start-up. When I reconfigure the sound system
with yast, every hing works just fine until I reboot the system. What
can I do to keep sound system running by default?
In addition to that I have quite the same trouble with kpowersave in the
KDE system tray who doesn't show the suspend options until i re-run the
yast-powermanagement.
Thanks a lot
Frédéric Becker.
Hi,
@work, I'm using VMWare 3.1 on my desktop for different tasks. On
that machine, I run Debian Sarge (testing) with a 2.4 kernel.
To prepare a course for instance, I used it to generate screenshots
from a booting Knoppix CD - which worked just fine in VMWare.
(obviouly without VMWare tools installed - they only get to be
installed on a fully "installed" guest OS, which can't be done
with a Knoppix CD)
Now, I installed VMWare on my Laptop, which also runs Debian Sarge,
for this task under a 2.4.27 kernel (I normally run 2.6.8.1).
Booting Knoppix under VMWare, I have an extremely "slow" mouse,
whether I use the integrated touchpad or an external USB mouse.
This means that for "normal" mouse movements, I only get a few
pixels' worth ov movement of the cursor.
N.b. just booting the laptop from Knoppix is no problem at all.
Does anyone have an idea what's happening there, and how I could
fix that problem?
TIA, Eric
Hi again,
so far I still got no candidates for the networking course.
I took the liberty of writing a tentative abstract (hence v0.1),
this has until tomorrow before becoming definite ;-).
Please have a look at it. If you see something where you feel like
"hey, I could do that part!", please do contact me. It's not like a
single person would have to do the entire course (unless so wanted).
You're welcome to do one part of this stuff...
Greetings, Eric
